Geographical Facts

The Republic of Kazakhstan is situated at the junction of Europe and Asia, in the very heart of Eurasian continent, virtually equal distanced from all four oceans.

The highest point of Kazakhstan, located on the border with Kyrgyzstan, is the holy mountain of ancient Turks — Khan-Tengri (6995 m above the sea level). The lowest point of Kazakhstan, situated in the territory of lowlands in the Caspian Sea region, is Karagiye depression (132 m below the sea level).

Steppes occupy about half of the territory of the entire country, and the most well-known steppe region is Kazakh Melkosopochnik (also called Sary-Arka), which is one of the largest areas in the world, possessing non-tilled virgin steppes.
