The import of national and foreign currencies in cash into Kazakhstan is unrestricted for all people irrespective of the nationality. The import and/or export of foreign and/or national currency in cash into/from the territory of the RK in the equivalent exceeding 3000 US dollars are liable to the customs declaration with the indication of the amount of the imported/exported currency.
The export of foreign currency in cash at the rate, not exceeding the equivalent of 10 000 US dollars is allowed without providing the custom authorities with the documents, verifying the origin of the exported foreign currency. The legality of origin of the foreign currency in cash from the RK at the rate exceeding the equivalent of 10 000 US dollars is to be verified by submitting the following documents: certificates from the exchange office about the purchase of foreign currency, documents about the withdrawal of money from the bank account in foreign currency, bank documents about receiving the foreign currency by means of one-off payment, customs declaration about the amount of foreign currency, that had been imported into the RK earlier (it is important to note, that the documents submitted should verify only the part of the money, that exceeds 10 000 US dollars) or the passengers customs declaration, drawn up upon arrival, with the indication of the amount of the foreign currency, that had been imported into the RK earlier.The amount of the currency, imported/exported by means of plastic cards is neither controlled nor restricted.
Foreign nationals may import into Kazakhstan any goods, excluding the items prohibited for import (the list of the prohibited items can be found below), without any limitations and customs duties on condition, that their total weight does not exceed 50 kg, while the total cost does not exceed the sum, equivalent to 1000 US dollars.
The following goods are allowed for free import: 1000 cigarettes or 15 cigars or 1 kg of tobacco; alcoholic beverages in the amount up to 2 liters (malt beer – up to 5 liters), 1000 liters of petrol, 150 liters of diesel oil. Jewelry, foodstuff and household goods are allowed within the limits of personal needs.
The following goods are to be declared in the written form: weapons, ammunition and explosives, narcotic and psychoactive drugs, precursors; works of art, collectables and antiques, being of historical, artistic, scientific or cultural value for the State; poisonous and strong substances, radioactive materials, high frequency devices and communications electronics, the usage of which is a subject to control from the public bodies; scarce collections and exemplars of flora and fauna, its parts and goods produced out of them; currency valuables, restricted by the currency legislation of the RK or subject to export/import on special conditions; precious metals and stones, excluding personal pieces of jewellery, excisable goods, imported into Kazakhstan in excess of the norms, determined by the Government of the RK; pharmaceutical products excluding the remedies used for personal needs; goods which are meant for production or other entrepreneurial activities; goods which are not meant for production or other entrepreneurial activities in the quantity/value, exceeding the norms, determined by the decree of the government of the RK (E.g.: clothes – more than 2 items of the same name, size and style per person; foodstuff – more than 10 kg per person, including sturgeon and salmon roe – more than 250 grammes; photo technique, audio-, video- and office equipment, household appliances and electric gauges – more than 1 item of the same name per person; jewellery – up to 6 items per person, remedies – more than 500 grammes per person etc.); goods transported in unattended luggage, temporarily imported/exported goods, which are not a subject to the privileged goods transfer upon their import/export is not (e.g.: photo- and video equipment), vehicles.
The following goods are prohibited from being imported into the RK: service weapons of all kinds and ammunition to them, weapons of mass destruction, as well as the materials and equipment, that can be used for their production; narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors, as well as the appliances for their usage; printed and graphic materials, aimed at detriment of the political system and social order, propagandizing war, terrorism, violence, racism, as well as materials of pornographic content.
The following goods are prohibited from being exported from the RK: service weapons of all kinds, ammunition and arming to them, weapons of mass destruction, as well as the materials and equipment, that can be used for their production; works of art, period pieces and other objects, being of great historical, artistic, scientific or cultural value for the State; representatives of flora and fauna, added to the Red Book and saiga horns, narcotic and psychotropic drugs, precursors, as well as appliances for their usage, cancelled security papers.
